Hi! I´m Luís

People know me as "Luís Santos"... my Literature name (Luís M N B F Santos). The friends and Students know me as "Luís Belchior".

I´m a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Porto an actualy a Senior Researcher & Group Lider at the NSO | Nanostrures & Self-Organization R&D Group. I was a PhD Student of the Prof. Manuel A.V. Ribeiro da Silva.

I am a Professor and Researcher of Physical Chemistry at the University of Porto.

I really like my job and I especially like to create knowledge, build new things, learn and motivate others to the value of knowledge.
I have been dedicating myself to the study of thermodynamic properties of organic semiconductor materials, with particular emphasis on polyaromatics and ionic fluids. My passion also involves the development of new experimental methodologies in the field of physical chemistry.

RICH AND HAPPY LIFE IN ALENTEJO

I was born in a small village in the interior of the Alentejo "Alvalade". We were a family of farmers dedicated to the production of tomatoes, rice, cereals and other typical products of the region. I learned to deal with the land, machines, tools, tractors, engines ..etc.
I attended high school in Santiago do Cacém (Liceu Manuel da Fonseca), for that I had to travel two hours daily on the school bus. Very rich but very tough, for me and for all who followed the same path. In 1983 I joined the Chemistry Course at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. At that time my life changed and my adventure in the academic field began.

STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PORTO

I was a student of Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. I am very proud to have been awarded a scholarship as a merit student at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.I was hired as a Trainee Assistant the year I finished my Chemistry course. In 1992 I started my PhD in the field of Physical Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Manuel A. V. Ribeiro da Silva. I finished my PhD in early 1996 with a thesis entitled, "Thermochemistry of Metal Complexes of Beta-Diketones and Monothio-Beta-Diketones".During this period, in addition to teaching practical and theoretical classes in various areas of chemistry, I did some methodological and instrumental development work in which I highlight the modernization of some of the existing instrumentation in the laboratory and in particular the beginning of the development of several versions of a software application for data acquisition and analysis applied to high precision calorimetry methods as Combustion calorimetry, Solution reaction calorimetry and Calvet type microcalorimetry: "LABTERMO , LABCALVET".

I was a student of Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. I am very proud to have been awarded a scholarship as a merit student at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

After promotion as Associated Professor @ University of Porto

I start to consolidate my position as Professor of Physical-Chemistry and R&D leader at the CIQUP.

I start new R&D fields of Thermodynamics properties of Ionic Liquids and the physical chemistry studies of organic semiconductors materials.

In 2019 finished my Habilitation in Chemistry at the FCUP.

I attended primary school and Telescola in Alvalade, Alentejo (South of Portugal). In 1977 I moved to Liceu Manuel da Fonseca in Santiago do Cacém also in Alentejo, where I finished the 12th year in 1983.

In octobre of 1983 I start my degree in Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and finnished in July of 1987.
